HIGHLIGHTS
Director
Nathan Markiewicz is an acclaimed filmmaker and theatre director based in Austin, TX. He is known for Olan, TX (2023), Love/Love (2022), and Liberty and the Pursuit (2017).
His short film Olan, TX premiered at the Oregon Short Film Festival in 2024, winning “Best Drama.” It also received “Best Cinematography” at the Venice Short Film Awards and garnered numerous film festival laurels.
Recently, Nathan directed A Bite of Memphis, a verbatim play about southern food and Memphis culture for LoneTree Live.
EDUCATION
Nathan earned his B.F.A. from the University of Colorado in 2003, performing in student productions and with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. He received his directing M.F.A. from East 15, University of Essex in 2015.
WORK
In the early 2000s, Nathan acted in Portland, OR, and began directing in 2008 with The Two Gentlemen of Verona for Shakespeare-in-the-Parks. He followed this with The Tempest, staged at Portland’s historic Lovejoy Fountain.
While earning his M.F.A. in London, Nathan became the protege of British director Stephen Unwin, serving as associate director for All Our Children at the Jermyn Street Theatre in 2017 and later as assistant director & dramaturg for the off-Broadway production, directed by Ethan McSweeny.
In New York City, Nathan directed rapper Josh Raff’s solo show The Reverend JEAU, which appeared at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in 2017. Their second collaboration, Love/Love, was awarded “Best One-Man Show” at the UnitedSolo Festival in 2022. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Nathan and Josh began writing screenplays together and co-founded MDI Productions in 2018. Their first feature-length screenplay, Six Italian Dicks, won the Rhodium Prize at the Depth of Field International Film Festival.
